Investigation of alteration of local conformational dynamics through viral fusion protein evolution

Description

Proteins are dynamic systems and our understanding of the interplay between protein motions and their function is still nascent. In their native environment, proteins experience a continuum of motions and sample an ensemble of conformation that dictate their function and interacting partners. Understanding the molecular and structural consequences of protein motions alteration is essential to fully comprehend protein­-protein interactions. Here, we propose to investigate how the conformational dynamics of viral fusion proteins has been altered by viral evolution.

Dr Gobeil's laboratory (Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Bioinformatics, IBIS, FSG, Université Laval) is looking for a motivated student to complete a master's or doctorate degree. Throughout his journey, the student will evolve in a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment, to perfect his knowledge, and acquire skills in the fields of structural biology, protein evolution and biophysical characterization of proteins.
