Research project

Leafhopper microbiome

Description

The LeafHope grant projects will advance our understanding of leafhoppers as pests and the diseases they transmit in different crops across Canada. The projects will help establish strategies to reduce the use of synthetic insecticides in light of their expanding range due to climate change. The Master's student will be tasked with assessing the biodiversity of all microorganisms colonizing the leafhopper microbiome. The main objective of this project is to begin to identify microorganisms with entomopathogenic properties that can be used as biocontrol agents.
