Leafhopper ecology in Canada and the effect of climate change
Description
The LeafHope grant projects will advance our understanding of leafhoppers as pests and the diseases they transmit in different crops across Canada. The projects will identify strategies to reduce the use of synthetic insecticides in light of their expanding range due to climate change. The PhD student will be tasked with assessing capture and biodiversity data for leafhoppers captured across Canada in three crops: strawberry, blueberry, and canola. The student will be able to assess the ecology in relation to climate change. The student will be required to integrate all the data obtained from over 150 fields across Canada and reach conclusions that will optimize insecticide use.
