Research project

Carbon balance of farm woodlot management in Quebec

Description

Agricultural greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Quebec accounted for 10.6% of total emissions in 2020. Although the agricultural sector is not subject to emission reduction obligations, efforts are required from society as a whole to curb climate change. Quebec's agricultural producers are demonstrating their willingness to make an active commitment to reducing GHG emissions and combating climate change.

The aim of this project is to draw up a portrait of the carbon balance of woodlots located on agricultural land in Quebec, with a view to quantifying their contribution to the overall carbon footprint of agricultural enterprises and identifying forest management solutions adapted to these woodlots that will increase carbon sequestration and limit carbon emissions.

The research project is a partnership with the Centre pour le développement de l'agriculture du Québec
