Flow Characterization in anomalous Hydraulic Turbine

Description

We are looking for a motivated MSc student to join our research team at the Hydroelectricity Innovation Center (HEKI) at Université Laval. The fully funded project is part of MD-Francis, a five-year collaborative research initiative involving four universities and six industrial partners, focused on characterizing the impact of anomalies on hydraulic turbine operation.

Project Overview
In this MSc project, you will conduct advanced experimental investigations to characterize how foreign objects obstructing turbine runner channels affect flow dynamics.

Project Highlights
- Perform state-of-the-art Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) measurements using our unique hydraulic turbine test stand
- Conduct time-resolved pressure measurements
- Integrate theory, measurements, data analysis & machine learning
- Collaborate in an international, interdisciplinary research environment
