Research project

Fluid-structure interactions simulations in hydraulic turbines

Description

Hydraulic turbines are a crucial source of electricity that facilitates the integration of other renewable energy sources into power grids. Canada is the third-largest producer of hydroelectricity. Increasing the reliability of hydraulic turbines is crucial for minimizing their ecological impacts and maximizing water utilization.

The proposed Ph.D. and M.Sc. projects are oriented towards the development of numerical methods applied to fluid-structure interactions in hydraulics turbines. The projects are part MD-Francis, a five-year collaborative research initiative that regroups four universities, and six industrial partners to characterize the impact of anomalies on hydraulic turbine operation.
